About Elder Tips

Thomas M. Cassidy is a former senior investigator with the New York State Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit who spent almost twenty years battling elder crime. Tom is the author of: Elder Care/What To Look For/What To Look Out For! (New Horizon Press), "How To Choose Retirement Housing", an Economic Education Bulletin published by the American Institute for Economic Research, and co-editor along with Dr. Lynn M. Tepper, an Associate Clinical Professor at Columbia University, of a college textbook, Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Aging (Springer Publishing Company, 2004). Thomas M. Cassidy has received appointments as a senior fellow at the Institute for SocioEconomic Studies and a research fellow at the American Institute for Economic Research.

Thomas M.Cassidy has completed a ten year appointment as a Clinical Associate Professor at the School of Social Welfare at Stony Brook University where he taught age-related courses for graduate and undergraduate students. In addition, Tom has developed, lectured at and facilitated geriatric care management continuing professional education programs for lawyers, nurses, social workers and senior advocates. Tom shares his expertise on aging, fraud prevention and finance issues with a wide-range of audiences. He has served as a speaker and facilitator at a United Nations international conference, "E-Technology Challenges and Opportunities: Empowering a Graying Society."

The third edition of Tom's book Elder Care/What To Look For/What To Look Out For! was released by the New Horizon Press in 2004. This edition includes many new chapters that will help those who need elder care, as well as those planning for retirement. For example, chapter four is a practical, down-to-earth, discussion of long-term care insurance. Thomas M. Cassidy is also a co-editor of Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Aging (Springer Publishing Company, 2004) with Dr. Lynn M. Tepper, Associate Clinical Professor at Columbia University. In this multidisciplinary text, noted leaders from a variety of fields provide students and professionals with a big picture approach to the best possible care for today's growing aging population.
